Beet Beer, Bears and Grad Party!!

So Handsome and I have been brewing quite a bit now for almost 2 years. I dont always post about it here because I dont always post. Also we have a blog for that (See Terrible Lizard Brewing Link) but this one was so cool I had to share. We brewed up a lovely batch of Beet beer! Thats right. With boiled and pureed BEETS! it sounds super crazy pants but I promise it actually turned out quite nice, and almost berry like with earthy undertones. Also it has the best red color you can imagine! We started with a basic pale ale recipe and added 2 lbs of beets to the boil. Then when we transfered into secondary we peeled, cubed and boiled 5 more lbs of beets. We then blended the mix and added it once it had cooled to the carboy. when we kegged it, we had to be careful of the 5 lbs of trube in the bottom. But totally worth it. We want to try letting it ferment longer too and try it with less sweetness, but for this party it was PERFECT!

 So as posted before in another post, I sleep with a bear every night. Mostly its my childhood bear Binky. But Bink is getting old, and I have been reading horror stories of comfort animals splitting in half from old age and use. I also sleep with Chutney my other childhood bear, and my "New Bear" whom my dad had got for me to take pressure off of Binky... But in 1994. So Chutney isnt a spring chicken either. With the stress of finals and graduating I have been needing a comfort animal more lately and so my search began for a new sleepy animal. I tried my awesome Anteater plush, Octopus and Giraffe, but Giraffes neck kept getting tweeked even after 2 nights, and anteaters nose was getting mushed after 4 nights, and octopus just was the wrong shape. I was using Handsome stuffed African Wild Dog Kunta, and Wolverine (the animal) Logan. Logan was the best shape but he's not mine.
So I did some research and found they still made a childhood bear of mine that my mom has kind of kidnapped. Snuffles the Bear by Gund. Most people will remember the polar bear, which is what I had had.

I then asked Handsome if I could have one since Im not working and am a broke bitch. So guess whos got a new bear!!

He's really super cute. And is the right size and squishyness to sleep on! Plus he looks like a sunbear. I named him Waffles. Im a grown ass woman.

On that note, this last weekend I threw my gradubirthday party. it was a ton of fun and a bunch of people came who i didnt think would and i was way to busy to take many pictures. But it was wonderful and my heart is full of love and wonder.

My Baby Sister is Old!

So it was Tess' birthday this last Monday, happy birthday!! So Handsome and I went up to Lincoln, aka the middle of the boonies to hang out with my old crew. I miss sacramento. Anywho, everyone was there, the aunts came up, dad and his girlfriend were there, and my wife!! With husband!! Aka Flea an Ryan. It was a good, redneck time and we got to celebrate at her new house on 10 acres! So much fun! And our home brew was a hit

Grads, Party and Happy Birthday!

Yes Im so narcissistic im wishing myself happy birthday!! But why not? Im 28, in a great school, have a great house with two really bad cats, have a great family and the sweetest Handsomest Gentleman Friend around! I survived another year which is both the most impressive thing and le11 ast impressive thing ever. My mom is in town!!! OMG Im so happy!! She flew in on Wed, and I picked her up and had to go to work. But thursday we went to the city and did a little shopping, I got a SUUUPER cute polkadot t-shirt dress for work and some cute hair clips I'll show off later. I also got a silly cat top for work and she got lots of good stuff!! We also met GF for dinner and had all you can eat dim sum for 5.99! Boom! Fri we went to the thrift store with the Aunts, I got a REALLY wonderful old metal foot locker, OMG its something I have wanted for EVER! Again pictures to be posted soon!! But to the good stuff- this weekend my Adorable cousin Amy Graduated from high school!! OMG! She was so beautiful, and so 17... I kind of forgot how 17 year old girls are.... lol!!

theres a picture of pizza there, because after we went to eat at california pizza kitchen, which I had never been to before some how. I got the Jamaican Jerk and it was DE-Lightful!! So yummy!! It was a really wonderful day!! We also threw my bdau celebration in there, even though i ask the family not to, lets just celebrate the achievment.. but i got some lovely gift cards, a pikachu tshirt because Im such a nerd, and a bacon chefs hat for bacon day!!! Ya! Pictures of those will come soon.

Last night the co-wrkers and I headed to chevys after a depressingly slow day at work, and THAT crew likes a party!! I was bought a pitcher of margharitas, which I shared, was given some REALLY lovely gifts and generally had a lovely time! GF came out and joined us, and we all took turns wearing my bday sombraro. BTW we had a discussion about Chevy's. Lets get something strait, its not mexican food.Its mexican inspired maybe, but if you go looking for mexican food your sorely dissapointed, Instead looks for grilled chicken, Margharitas and free chips, and you'll be happy as can be

Long Time No Post!

Sorry guys! Its been crazy with work doubling hours, school, HALLOWEEN and general crazyness. I will try and be better. Sow ith so much going on, here are some pictures!! First off I got my first reading glasses since the mid 90's! Rad :) Ordered them through Coastal.com and am GREATLY pleased. Of course as Im writing this I have forgotten them, but meh. I also have been drinking Trader joe's pumpkin Rooibos tea, which is delightful!! I highly recomend it, infact bought a second tin of it just in case :) Over the weekend a party was had that will be described shortly, but I was Carmen San Diego and Gentleman Friend was Waldo!! We were a hit :3

This week the GIANTS WON THE WORLD SERIES!!! Which means for those not in the know, San Francisco played baseball goooood. Lol! It was insanity in the streets, including rioting and the burning of 3 Muni busses (public trans) at the cost of around $71k A PIECE. And the city decided to forgive the violators as it was the world series. Good to know we have first world problems, eh? Anywho, there was a parade that stopped the city for like 8 hours to welcome them home from Detroit. I was sadly in class but after met Gentleman Friend for a bit and we bought some bootleg pennets off the street- 2 for $5! So nice so nice. Also GF's soft ball team is UNDEFEATED!! and off to the championship!! We celebrated with Pizza, beer and drunken co workers. So much fun!!

At work yesterday everyone was either sick, in Giants gear or decked out for the holiday.

So back to the party. Saturday after working all day, my co-worker Peter had an epic party! My camera doesnt have a flash but I got a few blurry pictures. There were drinks, a live band, lead by the host, and tons of good people and great costumes! Of course the people from men's shoes were the rowdy-est and partyest!! Ya we rock. There was a pumpkin used as a keg with ale, which I thought was quite clever!! All in all it was awesome. We didnt stay too late as the officers would be out looking for tickets to hand out
