Full House

And not the 90's show with Uncle Jesse. My little home is become full! But first, sorry for the lack of posting, I have been working my rear off. I got hired over at the Model T-Plex!!! :D Hurrah! and for more money then i imagined!! :D

Also, last week I brought home a friend, a little betta with a bad swim bladder. This means he doesnt swim right, so as a mature adult, I named him Swimmi.

He is pretty cool, and and i got a very trendy and appealing tank for him. Work is going well, just keeps going and going and going... Infact at work last night, at corporate pet shop, someone dropped off my other new addition.. Meet the kitten:

He is super chill, infact he is sitting on my shoulder currently... about 6-8 weeks old, and happily using the liter box with no problems (knock on wood!!) I havnt had a kitten in so long, its going to be an adventure. Thank goodness for the discount at corporate pet shop!!

I was supposed to go hiking today, but I am just to tired. my soul is tired. plus I want to play with kitten. :) Next week I head out to California!! OMG. I miss everyone so much. I get to se my future apartment, and see my family and friends. Im kind of sad leaving Michigan now. I have a nice apartment, am meeting friends, seeing a therapist and making a life. But I DO NOT want to go through another winter out here. I would need something huge to keep me. Alix is going to watch 46 and its occupants while Im out. :) yay for friends

Cooking

Today I dont have to be into work untill late, so I did some cooking. Last night I made a yummy Chicken and wild rice soup!

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 medium carrots, peeled and finely chopped
  • 3 large celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 2 medium garlic cloves, minced
  • 12 cups (3 quarts) low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 1/2 cups wild rice blend
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, medium dice
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, medium dice
  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped Italian parsley
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. When it shimmers, add onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onion is softened, about 10 minutes.
  2. Add broth and rice, season with salt, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer, covered, until rice is tender but still has some firmness, about 25 to 30 minutes.
  3. Add chicken, and season with freshly ground black pepper. Simmer until chicken is cooked through, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat, add parsley, taste, and season with additional salt and pepper as needed.

It came out amazing!! As for today I made carrot chips, sweet potato chips and candied tangerine peels. Yay for poor girl making food!

Scrimps

Ok, Sorry to all of you for the double post.. wait.. all none of you. Sorry Cooper, you have to listen to me type 4 feet from your den. Anywho, after signing the corporate letter of DOOM saying I wouldnt type anything about our company or its customers I must share a story about some awesomeness that has spanned 3 jobs and much hilarity.

This story begins at the horrible, terrible Resterant I worked at in January. It is a made to order, all you can eat seafood place. This place is in downtown Detroit, and has a certain... Clietel? a specific type of person to frequents regularly. These customers often order things their own way. "I wanted that red stuff fo ma salad." "French dressing?" "Ya, I SAID the red stuff. You deaf?" and so on and so fourth. My favorite of for an order of "Scrimps", thats right, not a typo- scrimps. fried scrimps usually. When I left said hell hole, and started at the pizza shop, we have these same wonderful customers asking us why we don't offer scrimps. "You need a scrimp and rib platta." Yep. Thats right, we're a pizza place with ribs, chicken and NO scrimps.

This brings me to corporate pet shop. I was putting along, catching dead fish, re-planting plastic plants and the like and a lovely male customer comes over to me. "Yo, I need some scrimps fo ma tank." Yo? Scrimps? Took most of my energy not to die laughing. I got the man his scrimps and we parted ways without me breaking into fits of laughter.

End Rant

Fire on the West Side

Yesterday I should have covered this. Ont he west side of town there was a huge fire in a very old school due to the lightning. The storm was really beautiful, I was up at 5:30 am to get ready for work and watched it for an hour. Im weird.

I am about to become a full blown Michigan resident!! I signed up for my Michigan drivers licence! And its special so I can go to Canada. Im gunna to out of country!!!! two weeks. gatta wait two weeks....

Also, no pictures (Sad face) but I got two new little hermit crabs. I think Herman might have passed on T_T but   have this fantastic set up so why waste it. I hope to fill it with crabbies again one day. I also picked Cooper up a chewy house, one he can eat and- he hates it. of course. Why would he want a $6 house when he can eat toilet paper tubes? Gerbils...

I repotted the plants in between jobs. Everyone got a new pot, even the spider plants, which means I wont have babies for about a year, but they will live longer. Got some good deals at WalMart on pots, colorful self wattering pots for $1 each, but the service was terrible. I wondered around for 45 minutes looking for potting soil in something other then 5 cup bags, and everyone I asked pointed outside. I kept looking but it wasnt there. Finally I left in a huff and a sweet gal said she found it outside in the parking lot. Thats nice, but I already had everything else, like i could just leave, right? So I went over to target and got a big bag of Miracle Grow self feeding. Yay for me getting to be lazy!

Return to Belle Isle Zoo

So my friend and I returned to the land of the lost, aka Belle Isle Zoo. The more I learn about the zoo the sadder I become. Turns out the zoo ran from 1895 untill 2002, which the mayor who shall not be named closed it, along with the aquarium. Stupid politics. Anywho, untill 2005 the few Europian Fallow Deer who roamed the island were housed there, untill they were moved to the little nature zoo built on the other side of the park due to the shitty fencing falling down that the famous mayor's good buddy build for a few million. (3 years of use eh?) Anyway, this day the gate was busted open, so we took a look around.

Nature is reclaiming it slowly. I feel in a few months I should go back and see the foliage growing :)
